Reagan dead?
Just heard it on the radio...checking around...

UPDATE: No confirmation yet...

UPDATE: Confirmed. ABC/FOX both reporting.

And now, commentary. We can't rejoice at the death of an asshole - then we'd be assholes. But we can take offense at the inevitable love fest, as the media slathers his horrendous record with praise. That is all for now.

Student drugs teacher
How...odd:

CHINO HILLS - Two 17-year-old students face felony charges on suspicion of dosing an Ayala High School history teacher with a marijuana-laced cookie.

The teacher, Frank Palminteri, 53, collapsed during an afternoon class May 28 after eating the cookie. The teacher, who declined to comment about the incident, spent a few days in the hospital and has since been released.

"He's still recovering," said Julie Gobin, spokeswoman of Chino Valley Unified School District. "He is at least at home."

The teacher has an existing medical condition of narcolepsy, which can cause sudden sleep, so foul play was not suspected until one of the suspects began bragging about the pot cookies earlier this week, a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department press release stated.

"...a few days in the hospital"? THAT is some good weed, my friends.

Mini-Limbaugh speaks
Hmmm:

One of the most outrageous injustices occurring in our society is the homosexual activists' relentless assault on the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), all because the BSA will not conform its standards to accommodate their lifestyle.

Actually, even if I opposed it, I'd say it's very UNoutrageous. But this comes from a guy who probably thinks the justice system is racially unbiased.

Vets favor Bush
They like getting their benefits cut? Why didn't they tell us? We need a totally new strategy now.

Bush names new UN ambassador
John Danforth...the ordained minister who put Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court and was caught wearing imported Italian clothing while giving a Senate-floor speech on the dangers of unrestricted importation. He's also a heir to the Ralston-Purina fortune. Splendid.

Pope calls gay marriage and abortion "self-centered"
Who knew the Pope was so uneducated. Gay marriage selfish? Sure, gays will just remain unmarried as not to corrupt the moral fabric of the rest of the untainted American society. How generous!

Personal reasons
Tenet is resigning for "personal reasons" like I enjoy sex for "religious reasons." He's jumping ship before the crash.

I always loved that show.

France says bin Laden evaded U.S. capture
I'm less curious in what they know and more curious about how...

News to no one
26% percent of Americans are mentally ill? That's just about how many conservatives there are, isn't it?

Warning signs
What do you think when you hear about two propane transport trucks being stolen?

WARNING
Flirting kills.

Partial birth ban deemed unconstitutional
While I totally support this move, PBA is a political mindfield I'd rather not enter during an election year.

KtL report
I'm sorry for the light posting this week, the workload is piling up before it drops off entirely for the summer. After Thursday I'll be at full strength, until then I'll be at a few posts a day. In the meantime, my new policy is "you link to me, I'll link to you." So if you want a piece of this sweet, 60-hits a day action, e-mail me.

Keeping Normandy secure
As much as some people would like to make France out to be weak, this is downright ballsy:

Private pilots who stray into Normandy air space during the 60th anniversary of D-Day next weekend will be shot down, French officials said yesterday.

With at least 16 heads of state, including the Queen and President George W Bush, attending the ceremonies, organisers are guarding particularly against an al-Qa'eda attack from the air.

It is one of the biggest security exercises in Europe since the war. An enormous network of radar equipment has been stretched between Deauville and Cherbourg, with Awacs early warning aircraft already in the skies.

The aircraft will be joined this week by small, remote-controlled drones. Advanced Crotale anti-aircraft missiles have been primed and two squadrons of Mirage 2000 fighters are stationed nearby.

The French ministry of defence has spared no expense. It has established a temporary air base at Carpiquet, outside the city of Caen, as the hub of its defences.

There, more than 800 soldiers will maintain round-the-clock surveillance, backed by more than 50 military helicopters.

Liberal media redux
There's so much bullshit coming from the right about the latest Pew polls that I must ask this question: ok, so more journalists lean left than right...but what about editors, the people who push the information through? The fact is, more editors and publishers are righties, not lefties.

Private airport screeners?
No thanks.

Terrorists could get fuel-air bombs
Because we don't have enough to worry about.

DEA informant laptop stolen
This is a good story if you're interested in the drug war.

Nader on Bush
Oh, Ralph:

"It's hard to find a more fitting reason to impeach a president under the high crimes and misdemeanors provision of the Constitution than plunging our nation into an unconstitutional, illegal war based on a platform of fabrication, deceptions and lies," Nader told about 75 supporters at the Canton library. "I mean, what more do you need for impeachment?"

You know what would be another good way to get Bush out of office, Ralph? Electing Kerry.

Soldier thought killed was executed
That he was executed is old news...but when did the Army know?

U.S. Army investigators obtained concrete evidence in August that Sgt. Donald Walters had been held in a building in southern Iraq, a Defense Department document shows.

But it wasn't until Thursday, just a few days after notifying family members, that the military announced Walters had been executed by Iraqi paramilitaries. Until then, he was thought to have been killed during the same March 23, 2003, combat that led to Jessica Lynch's capture.

The nine-page Defense Department document, given to Walters' parents and widow during separate briefings, lays out a timeline and critical findings of the inquiry into Walters' death. What it doesn't answer is why it took so long for the military to reverse itself and announce that Walters, 33, was shot in the back after being captured.

A spokesman for the Department of Defense said he would not comment on the investigation.

So let me get this straight. Nearly a year ago we discovered that a soldier had been executed. But why upset the family with that news, right? That's understandable. But then some light is shed on some American wrongdoings...what a good time to show how much worse the Iraqis are than us! So let's tell the public what really happened, shall we?

Hmmm...
This is interesting:

BOSTON - Stating that someone is homosexual does not libel or slander them, particularly in light of new court decisions granting gays more rights, a federal judge has ruled.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Nancy Gertner came as she threw out a lawsuit by a former boyfriend of pop singer Madonna who claimed he was libeled because his name appeared in a photo caption in a book about Madonna - under a picture of Madonna walking with a gay man.

"In fact, a finding that such a statement is defamatory requires this court to legitimize the prejudice and bigotry that for too long have plagued the homosexual community," she wrote in her opinion Friday.
