Student drugs teacher

CHINO HILLS - Two 17-year-old students face felony charges on suspicion of dosing an Ayala High School history teacher with a marijuana-laced cookie.

The teacher, Frank Palminteri, 53, collapsed during an afternoon class May 28 after eating the cookie. The teacher, who declined to comment about the incident, spent a few days in the hospital and has since been released.

"He's still recovering," said Julie Gobin, spokeswoman of Chino Valley Unified School District. "He is at least at home."

The teacher has an existing medical condition of narcolepsy, which can cause sudden sleep, so foul play was not suspected until one of the suspects began bragging about the pot cookies earlier this week, a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department press release stated.

"...a few days in the hospital"? THAT is some good weed, my friends.

Keeping Normandy secure
As much as some people would like to make France out to be weak, this is downright ballsy:

Private pilots who stray into Normandy air space during the 60th anniversary of D-Day next weekend will be shot down, French officials said yesterday.

With at least 16 heads of state, including the Queen and President George W Bush, attending the ceremonies, organisers are guarding particularly against an al-Qa'eda attack from the air.

It is one of the biggest security exercises in Europe since the war. An enormous network of radar equipment has been stretched between Deauville and Cherbourg, with Awacs early warning aircraft already in the skies.

The aircraft will be joined this week by small, remote-controlled drones. Advanced Crotale anti-aircraft missiles have been primed and two squadrons of Mirage 2000 fighters are stationed nearby.

The French ministry of defence has spared no expense. It has established a temporary air base at Carpiquet, outside the city of Caen, as the hub of its defences.

There, more than 800 soldiers will maintain round-the-clock surveillance, backed by more than 50 military helicopters.

Soldier thought killed was executed
That he was executed is old news...but when did the Army know?

U.S. Army investigators obtained concrete evidence in August that Sgt. Donald Walters had been held in a building in southern Iraq, a Defense Department document shows.

But it wasn't until Thursday, just a few days after notifying family members, that the military announced Walters had been executed by Iraqi paramilitaries. Until then, he was thought to have been killed during the same March 23, 2003, combat that led to Jessica Lynch's capture.

The nine-page Defense Department document, given to Walters' parents and widow during separate briefings, lays out a timeline and critical findings of the inquiry into Walters' death. What it doesn't answer is why it took so long for the military to reverse itself and announce that Walters, 33, was shot in the back after being captured.

A spokesman for the Department of Defense said he would not comment on the investigation.

So let me get this straight. Nearly a year ago we discovered that a soldier had been executed. But why upset the family with that news, right? That's understandable. But then some light is shed on some American wrongdoings...what a good time to show how much worse the Iraqis are than us! So let's tell the public what really happened, shall we?

BOSTON - Stating that someone is homosexual does not libel or slander them, particularly in light of new court decisions granting gays more rights, a federal judge has ruled.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Nancy Gertner came as she threw out a lawsuit by a former boyfriend of pop singer Madonna who claimed he was libeled because his name appeared in a photo caption in a book about Madonna - under a picture of Madonna walking with a gay man.

"In fact, a finding that such a statement is defamatory requires this court to legitimize the prejudice and bigotry that for too long have plagued the homosexual community," she wrote in her opinion Friday.
