Kerry Fights Back
I'm reminded of the most memorable line from Tarintino's Reservoir Dogs: "Are you gonna bark all day, little doggy, or are you gonna bite?"
And indeed, Kerry is finally showing signs that he plans to bite back, most recently attacking Cheney's comments of earlier this week.
Here is an excerpt from Kerry's own blog:

Four years ago, George Bush said he’d stand with and protect America’s police officers by extending the assault weapons ban – which keeps the most dangerous assault weapons off our streets. The same weapons that America’s police officers want off our streets, not just to fight ordinary crime but to take on terrorists. In fact, an al Qaeda training manual recovered in Afghanistan included a chapter urging terrorists to get assault weapons in the United States. Why is George Bush making the job of the terrorists easier and making the job for America’s police officers harder?

The "I Shit You Not" Department
It's hard to believe that Dick Cheney would follow up his ridiculous assertions about voting for Kerry leading to more terrorism with something even more ludacrous, but he managed to pull it off today.

Indicators measure the nation's unemployment rate, consumer spending and other economic milestones, but Vice President Dick Cheney says it misses the hundreds of thousands who make money selling on eBay.

"That's a source that didn't even exist 10 years ago," Cheney told an audience in Ohio. "Four hundred thousand people make some money trading on eBay."

Yeah and not only that, they also forgot to count the thousands of people who make their income by collecting quarters left in pay phones.

Deja Vu
Why does this seem all too familiar?

With pressure building to curb Iran's nuclear program, top disarmament officials from major countries gathered Thursday for two days of meetings that the United States says will focus on Tehran in the campaign to stop the spread of atomic weapons."

"Britain has given Iran two months to come clean on its nuclear program and halt work on uranium enrichment, or face a demand for United Nations sanctions."

And the letters Q and N are pretty far away from each other on a keyboard, so I don't think this was a typo in an email from Bush to Blair.

Another Hurricane
Hurricane Charley? Yeah, that was pretty bad. Hurricane Frances? Oh yeah, that one was awful. But wait, what's this? Hurricane Ivan is coming? And it's the third strongest hurricane in history? Looks like someone doesn't want Florida to vote in this election...

Oops
You're fucked.

Rummy Defends 1000
Proving yet again that some members of the Bush administration are in fact inhuman and incapable of emoting, Donald Rumsfeld today defended the marking of the 1,000th soldier killed in Iraq.

Seeking to limit the political fallout from the 1000th US military death in Iraq yesterday, Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said more Americans had died already in the "global war of terror".

Casualties were the price of "taking the offence" to terrorists, Mr Rumsfeld said in unprompted comments at a Pentagon briefing.

He said the "civilised world passed the thousandth casualty mark a long time ago".

"Hundreds were killed in Russia last week ... and this week we remember the 3000 citizens of dozens of countries who were killed on September 11, 2001,"

I don't know how the Republicans do it, but somehow this response is going to work, despite the fact that what he just said is "One thousand? Nah, it's way more than that!"

Log Cabin Republicans Get Common Sense
Finally, the Log Cabiners realized how Bush was screwing over their constituency.

The board of the Log Cabin Republicans (news - web sites) voted 22-2 on Tuesday night against endorsing Bush, the newspaper said, citing a spokesman for the group. Log Cabin in 2000 endorsed Bush against Democrat Al Gore (news - web sites), and in 1996 endorsed Republican Bob Dole against incumbent Democrat Bill Clinton (news - web sites).

The group in February criticized Bush for supporting the amendment. "Writing discrimination into our Constitution violates conservative and Republican principles," Executive Director Patrick Guerriero said at the time. "This amendment would not strengthen marriage -- it would weaken our nation." A call to the group was not immediately returned.

So the question remains: Will they vote for Kerry or simply not vote? The group has also said they were not satisfied with Kerry for his opposition to gay marraige. About one million gays voted for Bush in 2000. This group will inevitably play an important part in November.

Cheney's verbal spew
A good deal has been said about Cheney's latest comments:

A November win by Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry would put the United States at risk of another "devastating" terrorist attack, Vice President Dick Cheney told supporters Tuesday.

This is the bullshit they're throwing at Americans every day. All the calls to move to a domestic agenda need to stop right now. If we're where we are now a month from now, we'll know why. Kerry can't change the topic. While he was killing 20 enemy combatants in 4 months in Vietnam (that's more than one per week, in case you're wondering), Dick Cheney was getting his Masters degree in Being a Jackass. Edwards actually responded with GOP-esque audacity:

Kerry's running mate, Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina, responded by calling Cheney's comments "un-American."

But let's take it further. Say that our military is fighting in the Middle East to stop terrorism, and saying another attack is coming is saying that the military will fail. The two biggest intelligence failures in recent history - 9/11 and Iraq - happened on their watch. Kerry needs to get his muzzle off and start biting back.

WWJD
In the latest on the Keyes/Obama front, Keyes has now claimed that if Jesus were alive and living in Illinois, he would not be voting for Barack Obama.

Keyes, who has focused his campaign on abortion, said that his statement about whom Jesus would vote for was based on Obama's pro-choice votes in the Illinois Senate.

"Christ would not stand idly by while an infant child in that situation died," Keyes said. "And I'm not the only person, obviously, who thinks if you are a representative of me, I cannot vote for you if you would ignore the dignity and claims of that child's life. So, yes, I did respond quite logically -- you'll see it's quite logical, right -- with the conclusion that Christ would not vote for Barack Obama, because Barack Obama has voted to behave in a way that it is inconceivable for Christ to have behaved."

I've got nothing. You're on your own for a witty comment here.

Progress
Congratulations, George, on your 1,000th soldier dead in Iraq! Man, remember when the war ended last May? You sure had us good.

Bush Likens Kerry To Dean
Earlier today, President Bush campaigned in Missouri, where he criticized Kerry's anti-war stance, comparing him to Howard Dean.

In a speech to supporters in Lee's Summit, Missouri, Bush charged that Kerry has shifted his position yet again on Iraq and now embraces the stance Dean, the former governor of Vermont, campaigned on before his candidacy imploded.
"My opponent has now voted for the war and against supplying our troops. When he got on in the Democratic primary, he declared himself the anti-war candidate. More recently, he flipped again saying he would have voted for the war even knowing everything he knows today," Bush said.
"And he woke yesterday morning with yet another new position. And this one is not even his own. It is that of his one-time rival Howard Dean. He even used the same words Howard Dean did back when he supposedly disagreed with him," Bush added.

Yeah what a terrible move Kerry made, huh? Siding with the guy who was right all along. And what a dumb move Bush made because Kerry can easily distance himself from Dean, but now Dean will be calling out Bush the rest of the campaign, which Bush will be unable to avoid. And it even seems like Howie is one step ahead...
"Anyone here who believes that we were safer because George Bush sent 135,000 troops to Iraq, spending $129 billion of our taxpayer's money, out there and sending jobs from Ohio to China and Mexico," Dean told the crowd.

"Anyone who believes they want George Bush for another term can raise their hand right now cause I sure don't."

Dean challenged the state of Ohio saying if they elect Bush in November, they deserve another four more years.

Fahrenheit 9/11 Not Going For Oscar
In what some may call an out of character non-egotistical move by Michael Moore, Mike has announced he will not be submitting Fahrenheit 9/11 for the Best Documentary Film catagory, whose deadline passes tomorrow, so he can attempt to get the film shown on television immediately prior to the election. He does not guarantee it will happen, though, because he needs to find both a DVD distributer that will allow the film to be shown on television first and a TV network willing to air it. Read more about it from Moore here.

Another Classic Line
So, President Bush, why the recent crackdown on medical lawsuits?

"Too many OB-GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country."

Bush Fires Back
Is it just me, or since the RNC, has this campaign become much more interesting?

"After voting for the war, but against funding it, after saying he would have voted for the war even knowing everything we know today, my opponent woke up this morning with new campaign advisers and yet another new position," Bush said in prepared remarks released by his campaign.

"Suddenly he's against it again," Bush said. "No matter how many times Senator Kerry changes his mind, it was right for America and it's right for America now that Saddam Hussein is no longer in power."

Know what's flip flopping? Claiming Saddam has WMD and then saying he doesn't. How about being able to win the war on terror and then not being able to? Shit, here's one: Bush was once a governor and now he's the president. What? He can't make up his mind on what level of government he wants to make an embarassment of?
I can't wait for these debates. One of them best be taken out in a stretcher.

...Or Get Out Of The Kitchen
Let's go, Kerry. It's time to treat the Republicans how they've been treating you. No more letting them make asses out of themselves. It's obviously not working, given the most recent polls (Bush has a nine point lead). Let last Thursday night be the start of the angry Kerry campaign.
